We'd like to introduce you to Clare...
Hi I'm Clare. I'm doing a placement at Cartwright Communications as part of my MA Public Relations course at De Montfort University in Leicester.
Why did you want to work at Cartwright Communications?
I was looking for a placement within the East Midlands as part of my course – and Cartwright had the best regional reputation. I wanted to work in a friendly agency which would give me hands on experience with all aspects of PR. Cartwright was the perfect choice.
How did you get the job?
I rang Liz – who was in the middle of a meeting. She was really nice and asked me to ring back later, which I did. I emailed some of my work to Liz and a few days later, I had a place. The team is really nice and I feel lucky to be working here.
What's your background?
I'm halfway through a year long Public Relations course. I've done two years Public Relations at University previously and I've also completed three years of digital media, plus a year of advertising at university.
What's the difference between real life and the academic world?
I get actual experience of public relations, whereas at university it seems more about essays and theory. I want to hit the ground running when I apply for full time jobs.
What are you looking forward to?
Gaining an understanding of how PR works within the real business world. Also, getting more experience of writing press releases, blogs and interviews.
What part of PR do you enjoy?
I enjoy working with people and sharing their stories. Some of them are funny and interesting and I'm learning what makes a good story off Liz – she was a journalist for 20 years.
Cookie or muffin?
I can't decide. Can I just have both please?
What are you currently reading?
The Ruby in the Smoke by Phillip Pullman, PR Week and a kanji dictionary.
What do you do outside of work?
Jewellery making, trying to learn the guitar and learning Japanese.
