Nottingham 2023: European Capital of Culture bid
Getting local people behind Nottingham’s 2023 bid.
Nottingham announced its bid to become European Capital of Culture 2023 in August 2017; Cartwright was appointed to deliver regional PR and media relations support for the prestigious bid.
We devised a three-month PR plan aimed at raising awareness of the bid, creating excitement around a memorable launch event and working with local people and stakeholders to generate engagement with the bid – working alongside the bid’s national PR agency on major announcements.
Our campaign utilised a series of media relations tactics including content creation, working proactively alongside local and regional titles to ensure maximum coverage and ensuring all stakeholders were well prepared for interviews with the media. We also inputted heavily into how best to engage with the people of Nottingham and garnered support from local sports teams including Nottingham Forest, Notts County FC, Nottingham Rugby, Nottingham Panthers and Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, along with local businesses to bolster the bid.
This was an exceptionally successful campaign, which achieved vast media coverage both nationally and locally – securing 259 pieces of media coverage, with a reach of more than 13 million. The bid launch event was attended by all key regional and local titles across print and broadcast media and was deemed a huge success by the bid team.
- 259 pieces of media coverage
