BACKGROUND

Nottinghamshire PRIDE is the annual celebration of the region’s LGBTQ+ community, organised by Nottinghamshire’s official PRIDE charity and funded entirely by donations, sponsorships and volunteers.   

 

The 2022 celebration marked the first full Pride event since the pandemic and had the theme ‘We See You’, aiming to shine a light on all marginalised groups including trans and non-binary, young and older LGBTQ+ people and those living with HIV/AIDs. More than 15,000 people flocked to the city to join in the march and celebrations. 

APPROACH

ways keen to support this fantastic initiative, Cartwright helped to boost awareness of PRIDE, encouraging people to attend through PR and social media activity. 

Our team created a real buzz in the lead-up to the big day through press releases and regional broadcasts featuring interviews with PRIDE organisers and sponsors. Our social team implemented an engaging strategy with an eye-catching bank of templates and videos, a consistent stream of engaging organic social posts, teasers and spotlights on the performers. 

We secured an opportunity for BBC Radio Nottingham to air a live broadcast throughout its  afternoon show. We provided a robust brief and schedule to support this, along with on-the-ground support to co-ordinate interviews with key people during the day. 

We also secured an interview for the organisers with ITV News Central, which they had highlighted as one of their ‘golden titles’. 

 

RESULTS

Our efforts ensured that PRIDE achieved a combined total reach of 127 million people from 25 pieces of coverage. The attendance of 15,000 people surpassed the previous year’s 9,000 total. 

As well as the TV and radio interviews, our PR outreach strategy raised awareness with local and national media, including Gem 106, Nottingham Hospital Radio, Notts TV and BBC online East Midlands.
